FABRaiCATIONS are famous for rollcages, but to most people, a rollcage is a rollcage. But over the years we have seen some examples of Roll Over Protection that make me shiver.
Here is an example of a bolt-in rollcage that has been poorly built. You can see that there is quite a lot of clearance between the rollcage and the bodywork, AND you will also notice that the seam of the door opening has opened up after the car had rolled. The result was….car suffered heavy structural damage…..rollcage was untouched. The conclusion here is that the rollcage wasn’t really doing its job…..!
The next two photos are of the same cage and show how far the car can crumple before the side intrusions start to work, and the poor visibility of the front leg placement.

If a rollcage is working properly, it will absorb the heavy impacts in conjunction with the body work, rather than after the body work has crumpled. The photo’s below shows an example of a car that rolled more than 6 times, at high speed, and the occupants were uninjured.

Despite the enormous amount of damage to the exterior of the car, the suspension mounting points hadn’t moved, showing how well the structure worked. The impacts were strong enough to flex the main hoop and the concentration of the forces, started to crush the centre of the cross braces.

At FABRaiCATIONS we are best known for our contemporary rollcage designs and a high quality/low cost build philosophy, but we do more than that.
Over the years we have been involved in some very interesting projects, including fabrication work for the Holden Rally Team's Rodeo's, the Ford Focus and S2000 Fiesta Rally cars and even a concept car for Toyota.
Here are a few examples of what our workshop is capable of building.....

Pictured here is the Ford Focus rally cars front crossmember in its manufacturing jig, which is one of the more tricky things we’ve had to do. The crossmember had mounts for the engine, steering rack, control arms and sway bar and was post heat treated after fabrication.
Here is an example of custom made extractors built for an Mk2 Escort. These are 4 into 1 but we can also do Tri Y’s, and slip jointed, stainless exhaust systems such as this…

……3” Stainless Steel exhaust on a turbo rally car. We can also supply and fit Stainless steel Magnaflow mufflers to keep them pesky noise meters away.

This is a ‘Safari Rally’ cooling box, which houses two oil coolers for gearbox and engine oil, as well as the remote canisters for the rear suspension. Vents and ducting were fitted to the rear windows and the cooling box is fitted with a 10” thermatic fan.

We can also fabricate aluminium parts such as this copy of an early Datsun fuel tank.
Other things we do include :
…and we sell the full range of SPARCO products.![]()
